Inherent Optical Properties (IOP) database

This folder contains a series of netCDF data with the monthly IOP of the world oceans in the period 1998-2005.
IOP are calculated from Ocean Colour data (MODIS satellite) using the algorithm described in Smyth et al., Applied optics, 2006. Data are archived in netCDF4 compressed files, using CF-1.4 Convention.

The database is released to the MEECE community as part of the Deliverable 1.1

The name file indicates the year and the month to which the data in it refer.

Variables:
lat, lon (real): coordinates of the center of each cell of the regular grid
latbnd, lonbnd (real): coordinates of the cell boundaries of each of the grid cells
wavelength (int): specify the wavelength at wich the absorption coefficient has been calculated [nm]
ady (real): absorption coefficient due to detritus and yellow substances [m-1]
aph (real): absorption coefficient due to phytoplankton [m-1]
atot (real): total absorption coefficient except pure water [m-1]
bbp (real): total backscatter [m-1]
