Knowledge Exchange

Knowledge exchange involves the exchange of research-based knowledge to inform and influence decision-making and policy development. In our current knowledge-driven society, knowledge transfer is vital in order to transfer ideas, research results and skills between research organisations and user groups. In MEECE knowledge exchange activities have facilitated the dissemination of research-based knowledge, expertise and skills between the network and global users.

Effective knowledge transfer required communication between MEECE scientists and global users (e.g. policy makers, advisory bodies, research managers, conservation and user groups, management bodies), and results in the production, dissemination and use of existing or new research-based knowledge in decision-making and enterprise.

The key MEECE target groups include, decision makers in both science and policy areas, SME interested in the application of knowledge, and the interested public.

Key Presentations

Over the life of the project a number of high level presentations have been given to highlight MEECE's role and input into policy issues, particularly in support of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive:
The MEECE Project - presented to DG Environment by Project Coordinator Icarus Allen
The MEECE Project: outputs and uses - presented to the Marine Strategy Coordination Group by Project Coordinator Icarus Allen

MEECE Model Atlas

The MEECE Model Atlas covers the main European regional seas and displays a general overview of present and potential sea surface temperatures, acidification, primary production, plankton biomass and fish population for these marine regions.

This is the first time that a number of ecosystem models have been combined in this way to produce a more holistic view of Europe’s seas and what could change in the future when subjected to additional pressures, such as climate change, acidification, fishing and pollution.

The Atlas provides information relevant to the EU MSFD and other European policy drivers by showing the present state of the marine environment and how it might change when subject to external pressures.
MEECE has produced a number of tools and outputs to help share the results that have come out this project. Further details and information can be found through the links below.
